Vagabonds, part 3 - Vegas to Lubbock

After we wore ourselves out having a blast at Disneyland, we headed back to Henderson. Since the house hadn’t sold yet, we decided to stay a little longer, and lucky for us - Eric’s parents weren’t opposed. Eric and I spent a good amount of time clothes shopping for his new job (Eric’s most dreaded activity of all time), because he has never owned anything “business casual” in all his life. One of the perks of being self-employed is there is no dress code, and shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops or sneakers made up the bulk of Eric’s wardrobe. So needless to say, he desperately needed a wardrobe make-over. In addition to buying clothes for Eric, we stocked up on shoes, kid’s clothes, and other things we’d need for Vienna like warm, winter coats. It seemed like it would be hard to find sufficiently warm coats in Las Vegas, NV, while the temperatures were a blistering 114'F outside - but we did! And the best part about it, is that they were on sale! (go figure). Eric and I also got to go see my nephew, Josh perform in the National Barbershop Competition where he sang with the champtions, The Vocal Majority. That was cool.
To end another great week, we celebrated Cooper’s 9th birthday! Grandma Kathy made yummy cupcakes, Eric’s cousin Addie and her kids came to visit, and we all had a great time. Then it was time to say goodbye (for a long while) and head back to Texas. Goodbyes are never fun - so instead we’ll just focus on the fun memories we made while we were there.

Another long drive back to Texas, landed us back at my parents house. Lubbock will officially be our “Texas home base” while we’re in Vienna, and I think my mom was glad that it was our home base during our summer too. This was the third time out of four times that we stopped in at Gramma Judy and Papa John’s house this summer. We stayed and played for four more days before heading back to Dripping Springs. It was fun to be able to spend time with my sister, Joanna and her husband, Nathan too who live in Lubbock. We made sure to get in a couple of rounds of our nerdy games (Power Grid among many others) and my mom poked fun at us as usual. (How could anyone enjoy a game so complex?) Joanna and Nathan have always been keen to learn and play new games (Agricola and Puerto Rico are some other favorites), and we will surely miss playing with them. Cooper and Addie joined in while we played Ticket to Ride, and we even got Gramma Judy to play a round or two of that one… we may be making progress. :)
