Vagabonds, part 4 - Leander & Birthday Party

Remember how our “summer vacation” was supposed to only last a couple weeks, until our house sold? Well, we really thought it would be sold by this time, and we would be back home living in our already-sold-so-no-need-to-worry-about-keeping-it-staged home. We had even made plans at home during this time. Eric had an Elixr Convention to attend (I call it a nerd conference), and a dear friend of ours planned a true-blue birthday party for Cooper. However, since we still hadn’t gotten an offer on the house, and still wanted to keep it nice and staged, we decided to land ourselves in Leander, TX at the Sturdevants house. Our awesome friends of 9 years, Jenn and Stepen, welcomed us into their home. We have a history, actually, of living together during moving transitions, and this marked the third time our families to be joined under one roof. Feels like home there too. The kids have known each other all their lives, and play like cousins do. We had a great time chatting and playing. We went to a fun splash park where all the kids had a blast, only endured a couple minor injuries, and got really wet, which was welcome in the Texas heat.

playing with all girls is rough, but Cooper gets by just fine.
a dinosuar dig birthday gift gave him a respite from girlie games.

Speaking of getting wet, during our stay in Leander, our friend Sarah threw an awesome “Under the Sea” birthday party for Cooper at her house. Sarah doesn’t do anything half-way, and the party she threw was amazing. The decorations (many of which she made herself), the 3 million baloons, the huge array of food, the games, the photo shoot… with the help of her amazing family, she pulled off a party that made Cooper’s birthday super special. Not only that, but unbeknownst to me, she also invited a bunch of our other friends for an “after party” farewell. We all had a fantastic time, and it was wonderful to see all of our friends again.

My sister, Jenn and her boys came from Denton just in time to make it to Cooper’s birthday party. She stayed overnight, and we all went swimming at a fun pool the next day. You can never go wrong with swimming with cousins and good friends on a hot, sunny Texas day. It made for another fun in the sun day.

Eric had an Elixr Conference to attend during the weekend (which I thought sounded like a convention that Harry Potter would attend in association with Potions class, but really it’s a pretty typical ‘nerd conference.’) While he was doing that, I decided it couldn’t hurt to do an open house for our still-for-sale house. Eric’s brother, Jonny was kind enough to watch the kids (did I mention we have an awesome family who loves us?) while I went and put out balloons and signs that pointed our way and hoped for a buyer to come. Three couples came to the open house, and one even almost made an offer later, but in the end... nothing...
...yet.
